AGM Weekend 2018

Sligo 18th to 20th May 2018

The Federation of Local History Societies Annual General Meeting will be held in Sligo in 2018. We will be staying in the four-star Radisson Blu Hotel in the countryside just a five-minute drive from the centre of Sligo on the road to Rosses Point.

Sligo is one of the most beautiful and interesting counties in Ireland with a wealth of historical, archaeological and cultural attractions. Working closely with the Sligo Field Club and with the support of the Sligo Business Improvement District (BID), we have put together a very interesting and stimulating programme for the weekend. So book now to ensure that you do not miss out on meeting up again with old friends and with new ones and getting to know one of the most attractive areas in Ireland.

The cost of the weekend package is €185 per person sharing and for single occupancy is €290. This includes two nights bed and breakfast and two dinners. It does not include lunches. In addition, there will be a delegate fee of about €20 to cover entry fees, bus costs etc. Members of the Sligo Field Club will not have to pay the delegate fee.

If you are interested in the weekend package, book directly with the hotel by contacting the reservations department at (071)914-0008 or by e-mail to:  . Quote the “Federation of Local History Societies” when booking. If you have special dietary requirements, make sure to inform the hotel when booking. It is essential also to e-mail me with your name and society name so that I can compile an attendance list. My contact details are:  or 01-2853960.

Day Attendance
If you are interested in just attending the AGM, please let me know your name, your e-mail address and the name of your society before 14th May 2018.

If, in addition, you wish to attend the dinner on the Friday evening or the Saturday evening (or both), please let me know by 14th May 2018, specifying any special dietary requirements. A three-course dinner plus tea or coffee will cost €30…. but the hotel has to know in advance (through me).

Other Information

  • If you are arriving by car, the N4 goes straight into the town and out the other side towards our hotel. After crossing the bridge, take a left turn signposted Rosses Point and after a few minutes, you will see the hotel on the right. There is plenty of parking. Alternatively, since we are using a bus on both days, you might consider taking the train to Sligo followed by a short taxi ride to the hotel.
  • The hotel has a fully equipped leisure centre with spa, gym and swimming pool.
  • Since we may be walking over some rough ground, bring strong footwear.
  • A snack lunch (not included in the package) will be available in the hotel on the Saturday for €10.95. On the Sunday, a snack lunch (not included in the package) will be available in Lissadell House at a price still to be negotiated.
  • The history and archaeology publisher, Wordwell, will have a stand at the AGM, where their publications will be on sale, including History Ireland and Archaeology Ireland.
  • Tables will be provided where member societies may sell their own publications.

Finally, we would like to once again acknowledge the support and assistance of the Sligo Field Club and Sligo BID in organising this event.
