The Federation in conjunction with Scoil Mhicil, Athy organised an oral history project in the school earlier this year. It was a trial project with a view to rolling it out countrywide at a later date. Children of 5th and 6th classes in the primary school were involved in interviewing their grandparents and/or neighbours about life three generations ago. All interviews were filmed and recorded under the supervision of a class teacher and the children were grouped together in teams of four or five for the purposes of organising and carrying out the interviews. The project proved to be a great success and the federation chairman Larry Breen was a guest of honour on the night of the formal presentation of the project’s end result. The school children their parents and grandparents also attended. The federation is now reviewing and revisiting the initial history project with a view to launching a project countrywide at a later date.
