Federation A.G.M. Clontarf, Co. Dublin, Saturday May 10th2014

Martina Griffin, Betty Quinn, Dick Ryan, Mairead Byrne and Larry Breen at A.G.M.

Clontarf was chosen this year for the A.G.M. in keeping with the celebration of the 1000 year anniversary of the famous event. The venue was the Clasac Irish Cultural Centre, Alfie Byrne Road in Clontarf. Hosted by the Clontarf Historical Society who did a marvellous job in organising the event it proved to be a great success attracting delegates from twenty two different Historical/Archaeological Societies. Also present representing the Federation for Ulster Local Studies was their chairman, Johnny Dooher. The A.G.M. was officially opened by Cllr. Jane Horgan-Jones deputising for the Lord Mayor of Dublin who sent his apologies. After the official business of the meeting the “Society Spake” generated some lively and interesting debate with contributions from all twenty two societies present. After lunch locally the group were taken on a captivating Historical Walk & Talk along the seafront by local historian Denis Mc Intyre after which we all retired to a local hostelry for a welcome “cuppa”.
